Get ready to step into the world of monsters and mischief because big changes are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! That’s right—Mike, Sulley, and the entire Monsters, Inc. crew are making their way to the park, bringing with them an all-new land that promises thrills, laughs, and plenty of doors!
As part of the exciting announcements from last summer’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the south side of Hollywood Studios will soon transform into a Monsters, Inc. wonderland. The new land is set after the events of Monsters, Inc. (2001), inviting humans to visit Monstropolis and tour the laugh factory. Concept art shows the factory, a Sulley-inspired slide, and bustling city streets. The highlight? A brand-new suspended coaster that lets you race through the door vault in a heart-pounding adventure inspired by the iconic scene from the film!

This attraction will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller-coaster, inspired by the famous door scene from Monsters, Inc.. “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Of course, to make room for our new monster pals, some areas of the park will be saying their goodbyes. Starting in May, the Grand Avenue area will begin a phased closure. If you’ve got a craving for Italian cuisine, be sure to grab your last meal at Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano before its final day of operation on May 10. Then, on June 7, both Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close their doors for the last time.
But don’t worry—this isn’t the end for The Muppets! Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang are packing their bags and heading over to Sunset Boulevard, where they’ll be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. That’s right—The Muppets are teaming up with some of the biggest names in music for an all-new, rockin’ festival experience. This marks the first time ever that The Muppets will headline a Disney attraction, and you can bet it’ll be packed with laughs, surprises, and an epic soundtrack. Plus, expect a whole new lineup of Muppets-themed merchandise to celebrate their arrival!

As these changes unfold, Disney Imagineers are also exploring ways to preserve fan-favorite elements from these beloved attractions for the future. There’s plenty of magic on the horizon for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so stay tuned for more updates! Keep following the Disney Parks Blog for all the latest news on Monsters, Muppets, and beyond!

Trivia question.
What band was originally featured on the Rockin Rollercoaster attraction in Disney's Hollywood Studios Park?
Answer. Aerosmith. Originally featuring Aerosmith, the ride immersed guests in the rock-and-roll lifestyle, with an unforgettable pre-show experience where fans watched the band in a recording studio before being whisked away in a super-stretch limo to make it to their concert on time. It was a thrilling ride that blended high-speed excitement with classic Aerosmith hits like Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion.
