Ahoy, mateys! There’s one Disney attraction that stands out from the rest—not just because it’s iconic, but because it has its own song, its own unforgettable scent, and a blockbuster live-action franchise to boot. That’s right, we’re talking about Pirates of the Caribbean!
Since setting sail in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland in 1973, this beloved ride has been a fan favorite for over 50 years. And now, Disney is giving it an exciting expansion! At D23 in 2023, Disney announced that a brand-new Pirates-themed lounge would be opening next to the ride, taking over the former Pirates League makeover space (which closed back in 2020). Fast forward nearly two years, and we’re finally getting a closer look at the progress! While construction is still underway, Disney has confirmed the lounge will open sometime later this year—and we can’t wait.

But that’s not all! Disney Imagineers also revealed an additional new space called Captain’s Quarters, which wasn’t part of the original lounge plans but is now an exciting extra feature. And in even more thrilling news, an old friend is making a comeback—the Barker Bird! Longtime fans might remember this chatty parrot, who used to perch above the ride’s entrance, welcoming guests with pirate-y phrases. He was retired in 2006 when Captain Jack Sparrow made his way into the attraction, but now he’s returning to take his rightful place in the new lounge.

As for when it’ll open, what’ll be on the menu, or if we’ll see any pirate-filled entertainment inside—Disney is keeping those details under wraps (for now). But don’t worry, A Disney Life for Me will be keeping a close eye on this swashbuckling spot and sharing all the latest updates. Stay tuned and keep your sea legs ready—this is one adventure you won’t want to miss!

Trivia question.
On the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in the town scene where the pirates are holding an auction what actor provides the voice of the auctioneer pirate?
Answer. Actor Paul Frees. Paul Frees was an American actor, comedian, impressionist, and vaudevillian, best known for his extensive voice work. At Disney parks, he provided the iconic voice of the unseen "Ghost Host" in the Haunted Mansion attraction at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. In Pirates of the Caribbean, Frees recorded the haunting phrase "Dead men tell no tales" and voiced several audio-animatronic characters, including the Auctioneer, Magistrate Carlos, and the "Pooped Pirate." His distinctive voice brought many Disney characters to life, leaving a lasting legacy in Disney history.
